Scene guide
The New York City lifestyle scene: a newcomer's guide
New York City has one of the busiest lifestyle calendars in North America, spread across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island and nearby New Jersey. Expect club nights and private parties alongside workshops, socials and ENM meetups. Many venues share exact addresses only after you register, so newcomers usually begin with a social or a newcomer night.
New York does everything at scale, and the lifestyle is no exception. On any given weekend there is a social, a club night, a private party or a workshop somewhere in the five boroughs or just across the river. The catch is that the scene is discreet: many events run in private lofts and event spaces, and the best ones expect you to register first. This guide explains how it works.

What the New York scene is like
New York's calendar is unusually balanced between four kinds of events:
- Club nights and lifestyle parties. Regular nights in Manhattan and the outer boroughs, plus long-running clubs on Long Island and in New Jersey. Some are social dance nights; others have private areas. Browse club nights.
- Private parties. Hosted events in lofts and private venues, often with guest lists, dress codes and a vetting step. They range from intimate gatherings to large themed parties.
- Workshops and classes. New York has a large education scene covering communication, intimacy, tantra-style practices and relationship skills. Browse workshops.
- Socials and ENM meetups. Casual evenings for swingers, open couples and the polyamory community. Browse socials.
New York crowds tend to be diverse in age, background and orientation, and many hosts market to specific communities. Read the listing to see who an event is for.
Where events happen
Most dates on our calendar are in Manhattan, with more in Brooklyn and Queens, on Long Island and in northern New Jersey.
Upcoming events by city
Getting around matters here. Manhattan and Brooklyn events are usually easy on the subway or a short ride, while Long Island and New Jersey clubs are generally a drive or a train plus a cab. Plan your route home before you go, especially for late nights.
How New York events work
- Addresses after registration. Many hosts share the exact location only after you buy a ticket or are approved. This is normal and protects guests.
- Guest lists and vetting. Private parties often ask for an application, a photo of you as a couple, or a short call. Legitimate hosts never ask for explicit photos.
- Tickets sell out. Popular nights fill ahead of time. Buy early, and read the refund policy.
- Pricing varies by guest type. Couples, single women and single men are often priced differently, and some nights do not admit single men. YOS shows "Price: on listing" when a host has not published prices.
Getting started in New York
- Start social. A meet-and-greet, an ENM meetup or a newcomer night is the easiest first step.
- Try a workshop if you would like to learn alongside other curious people in a structured setting.
- Graduate to a club night or party that welcomes newcomers. Read your first club night beforehand.
- Stay in touch with hosts you like. In New York, the best invitations come through mailing lists and returning to the same events.
Local etiquette notes
- Discretion is everything. In a city where you might run into a colleague, the no-photos and no-names rules are absolute.
- Dress up. New York crowds take dress codes seriously. When in doubt, go a notch smarter.
- Arrive in the window. Many events have an arrival cutoff, and late arrivals may be turned away.
- Respect the venue's neighbors. Private venues are often in residential buildings. Keep it quiet on the way in and out.
The universal rules are in lifestyle etiquette 101.
If you are visiting
New York is a popular weekend trip for lifestyle couples. Book a hotel close to the event, check the arrival window and dress code, and register well in advance for anything that requires vetting. If you are planning around a bigger trip, see our guide to lifestyle resorts and cruises, several of which sail from East Coast ports.
Who the New York scene suits
Almost everyone, as long as you are happy to plan ahead. Couples who enjoy dressing up and a big-city night out will love the club and party scene. People exploring polyamory or open relationships will find a large, welcoming community of meetups and workshops. And if you are simply curious, a social in Manhattan is about as low-key as a first step gets.

Frequently asked questions
Are there swinger clubs in New York City?
Yes. New York has regular lifestyle club nights and private parties in Manhattan and the outer boroughs, plus long-running clubs on Long Island and in New Jersey. The YOS New York page lists upcoming dates.
Why do New York lifestyle parties keep the address secret?
Many New York events take place in private venues, so hosts share the exact address only after you buy a ticket or are approved. It protects guests and neighbors and is a normal practice for reputable hosts.
What should first-timers do in the New York lifestyle scene?
Start with a social, ENM meetup or newcomer night, then try a newcomer-friendly club night or party. Register early, check the dress code and arrival window, and plan your route home.
Do New York lifestyle events admit single men?
Some do, often with limits or specific nights, and many are couples-first. Each listing shows who the host says the event is for, and pricing usually differs by guest type.
