Lifestyle resorts and cruises for 2026 and 2027: how they work and how to choose
Lifestyle travel comes in three forms: adults-only resorts with a lifestyle-friendly atmosphere, group weeks or takeovers hosted by travel organizers at those resorts, and cruises where an organizer charters a ship or books a large block. Most first-timers choose a hosted group week, because it combines a ready-made social calendar with the safety of a resort.
For many couples, the lifestyle is less about a Saturday night and more about a week somewhere warm with people who share their outlook. Lifestyle travel is also the part of the scene that sells out first, so it pays to understand the options early. Below: the three main formats, how to choose, and live upcoming dates from the YOS calendar.
A note on honesty: YOS is an independent directory. Some listings below are partner links that may earn us a commission if you book, and they are marked "Partner". We have no other business relationship with the properties named here, and descriptions are based on each property's own public materials. Policies change, so always confirm the current rules directly.
Format 1: Adults-only lifestyle resorts
These are all-inclusive resorts, mostly in Mexico and the Caribbean, where the atmosphere is open, flirty and judgment-free, and where lifestyle couples are explicitly welcome. They differ a lot in tone:
- Couples-only, clothing-optional resorts such as Desire Riviera Maya, near Puerto Morelos in Mexico, are built around the lifestyle and set rules that reflect it.
- Adults-only resorts with a playful, mixed crowd, such as Temptation Cancun, are popular with lifestyle couples and also welcome guests who are simply there for the party and the pool.
- Long-established Caribbean resorts such as Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica, have a nude side and a prude side, plus a calendar packed with group weeks run by outside travel hosts.
At a resort you set your own pace: pool, beach, dinners, theme nights, and as much or as little socializing as you like. Browse resort events and destinations:

Format 2: Group weeks and takeovers
A travel host books a block of rooms, or in a full takeover the whole property, and builds a week around it: welcome party, themed nights, pool parties, group dinners and sometimes workshops. Hosts range from small agencies to well-known lifestyle brands, and each group has its own personality: young-crowd weeks, theme weeks, weeks for particular communities.
This is the most popular first trip, for good reason. You arrive to a ready-made social calendar, there are hosts to introduce you, and on most weeks the crowd is predominantly lifestyle. Closer to home, organizers also run weekend hotel takeovers in US and Canadian cities, which are a good rehearsal before committing to a flight.
Format 3: Lifestyle cruises
Cruise organizers either charter an entire ship, which allows the whole ship to follow lifestyle rules, or book a large group on a mainstream sailing, where the group has private parties and spaces but shares the ship with other passengers. Names you will see on the calendar include Bliss Cruises, Desire Cruises, the Temptation Caribbean Cruise and Lifestyle Cruises. Full charters tend to book out well in advance. How to choose your first trip
- Decide on the crowd. All lifestyle (full charter, couples-only resort, full takeover) or mixed (group block at an adults-only resort or on a regular sailing)? First-timers often prefer a group block: plenty of lifestyle company, with the option to fade into a normal holiday.
- Pick the vibe. Read the host's description and recent photos of their events (shared by them, publicly). A week billed as a nonstop party is very different from one billed as relaxed and social.
- Check the rules. Clothing policies, public-area rules, singles policies and age ranges vary a lot.
- Budget honestly. All-inclusive resorts and cruise cabins are usually priced per person or per couple and climb steeply in peak season. Add flights, gratuities, travel insurance and any event pass the host charges. Most listings do not publish a price, so YOS shows "Price: on listing" rather than guessing.
- Book early, and read the cancellation terms. Popular weeks and charters fill months ahead. Refund rules and deposit schedules differ widely.
What first-timers worry about
"What if we just want to relax?" You can. Nothing at a lifestyle resort or on a cruise is compulsory.
"What if we see someone we know?" It happens, and lifestyle etiquette covers it: a nod, discretion, nothing said back home. See lifestyle etiquette 101.
"Is it safe?" The established resorts and organizers are professional travel businesses. Use common travel sense: insurance, reputable bookings, a plan for getting around, and the same consent rules as at home.
"Will it be explicit everywhere?" Rarely. Daytime at most resorts looks like any lively beach resort. Nightlife and designated areas are where the lifestyle is most visible, and you choose whether to go.
Before you book
If you have never been to a local social or club night, try one first. It is the cheapest way to find out how you both feel in a lifestyle room. Start with your first club night, then find lifestyle events near you.

Frequently asked questions
What is a lifestyle resort?
A lifestyle resort is an adults-only, usually all-inclusive resort where couples in the swinging or ENM community are explicitly welcome and the atmosphere is open and judgment-free. Rules range from couples-only and clothing-optional to mixed adults-only crowds.
What is a lifestyle cruise?
A lifestyle cruise is a sailing organized for the lifestyle community. Organizers either charter a whole ship, so lifestyle rules apply throughout, or book a large group on a regular sailing with private parties and spaces for the group.
What is a resort takeover week?
A takeover or group week is when a travel host books a block of rooms, or the whole property, and runs a week of themed parties, dinners and events for their group. It is the most popular format for a first lifestyle trip.
Do you have to participate at a swinger resort?
No. Nothing is compulsory. Many couples spend most of the week at the pool and beach and only join the social events they enjoy. The same consent rules apply as at any lifestyle event.
How far ahead should you book a lifestyle cruise?
As early as you can. Full-ship charters and popular group weeks often fill months in advance. Always read the deposit schedule and cancellation terms before you pay.
